Craig Bone was born in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1955. He studied Graphic Art at Natal University, South Africa. In 1977 Craig returned to Zimbabwe to preform his National Service in the Rhodesian Light Infantry. During this time Craig was totally influenced by the war in which he found himself immersed. He painted vivid scenes of combat. At this stage of his life Craig was severely wounded by a mortar attack, which almost cost him his legs and his life. Luckily he survived, but was unable to continue with his military career. That is when Craig decided to start painting full time.

On a trip to the Zambezi Valley Craig was filled with inspiration by the bush and wildlife of Zimbabwe, resulting in his choice to paint this environment.  Craig’s focus changed drastically, utilizing his photographic skill and sketches from the wild, he concentrated on producing extremely realistic glimpses of the exotic beauty of Africa.

In more recent years, Craig has devoted both his time, energy and skills to helping young Zimbabwean artists in developing their talents.  He was intensely involved with teaching art at his children’s junior and senior schools in rural Zimbabwe.  He has also donated his artworks to various charitable organizations over the years.  Craig has a strong sense of community spirit.
